Child remained safe in car seat, woman suffered minor injuries
A woman suffered minor injuries and a small child in a car seat escaped injury when a minivan collided with a power pole and overturned at Highway 33 and Wood Street Thursday afternoon.
The woman was driving the van southbound on Highway 33 about 3:30 p.m. when it struck the pole, breaking it off and the base and leaving live power lines across the roadway.
The van landed on its wheels.
The woman suffered an arm injury.
The child, safely secured in the child safety seat in the rear, was not injured, Taft Police said.
Both were taken by ambulance to a Bakersfield hospital to be examined and treated.
Highway 33, Wood Street and Petroleum Club Road were blocked at the intersection for a time until PG&E cut power to the downed lines.
