Victim was not wearing seatbelt

A Wasco man was killed in a traffic collision early Friday near Lost Hills.
The California Highway Patrol said the victim, whose name has not been released by the Kern County Coroner, was driving westbound on Highway 46 east of Buford Street (just east of I-5) at approximately 65 miles per hour when he allowed his 2001 Honda to drift off the roadway an onto the shoulder.
He swerved back to the left and it started rotating and entered the westbound lanes into the path of a Dodge and was struck broadside.
The victim, age 26, died in the impact.
He was not wearing a seatbelt, the CHP said.
The other driver, Jorge Negrete, 67, of Lost Hills, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Delano Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the accident, which took place at 5:20 a.m.
