Bill left this world on September 4, 2017 to be with his Savior and be reunited with his wife Jan. He was born in Springfield, Missouri June 27, 1930 to Mary Helbig and Joseph Owen, he was the youngest of four children. Bill graduated from Burroughs High School in 1948 and attended apprentice school at N.O.T.S. (1948-51).

He served in the Korean War (1951-54) as a Sergeant with the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, a United Nations Service Medal and National Defense Service Medal. He lived and worked in China Lake for 31 years, raising two families.

After retirement in 1979, Bill and his wife Jan traveled across the United States in their fifth-wheel trailer as members of Campers For Christ, assisting in the construction of churches and schools.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Jan, and his sons Danny and Steve Lager.

He left behind: children - Sharon (Larry) Boyer of Inyokern, CA; Dianne (Ed) Foreman of Santee, CA; Julie (Chuck) Antonio of Gold Canyon, AZ; and Jeff (Janine) Paulsen of Trabuco Canyon, CA; also, 12 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. His family and friends were blessed to know Bill and will miss him greatly.
