Judy Finses was a hospice nurse for many years.

Madrone Hospice, Inc. recently submitted the following:

Judy Finses was a hospice nurse for many years. After she retired, she and her husband, Jim, approached Audrey Flower with a proposal to provide regular volunteer services landscaping the Madrone Hospice gardens.

For well over 10 years, the Finses have regularly spent many hours in the gardens. They will be sharing before and after pictures of the gardens with the Madrone Hospice Board of Directors later this month.

It seemed in the early years, that they moved and fluffed bark incessantly, but their vision for hospice expanded and the improved gardens have blossomed.

The gardens at the Madrone house are regularly enjoyed by staff, Madrone house patients and their families and may be without comparison anywhere in Siskiyou County. Visit them and bring those out-of-town guests to see the gardens.

Jim and Judy replanted trees on this location in the garden for many years until Judy questioned just how many times they were going to replant trees on solid rock.

They came up with the idea of an arbor and donated money for the materials. The construction was completed by hospice’s maintenance engineer John Hasemeyer. It is a wonderful addition to the gardens, and is representative of what volunteers with a vision can make happen.
