The other driver is charged with felony DUI and manslaughter

A Lost Hills man was killed early Sunday in an alleged drunk driving crash on Highway 46.

The California Highway Patrol said the victim, identified by the Kern County Coroner as Jose Ayala Alfaro, 62, was westbound on Highway 46 just east of Rowlee Road about 2:30 a.m. when a car driven by Ramiro Maya 22 came up from behind and struck Alfaro's van, knocking it out of control and into a power pole.

Alfaro was pronounced dead at the scene.

Maya was arrested on charges of felony drunk driving causing injury or death and DUI manslaughter.

Maya is being held in Kern County jail on $80,000 bail.
