Free training in Taft on October 19

 Do want to become become a weather spotter for the National Weather Service?

You'll get your chance next week at a training session in Taft.

The NWS Hanford office is looking for trained spotters for the San Joaquin Valley Forecast Office Skywarn Spotter Program.

The training session will be held October 19 starting at 6 p.m. in the council chambers at the Taft Civic Center, 209 E. Kern St.

There is no cost for the training.

Topics covered include cloud features, severe thunderstorm recognition, severe weather safety rules and reporting procedures. These sessions usually last just under 2 hours.
