Sunday night fire destroyed small wooden structure two days after three houses burn in Taft Heights
Fire destroyed a small abandoned house on he 100 block of Eastern Avenue Sunday night
It was the fourth fire involving an abandoned structure in the Taft area in less than a month.
Sunday's fire broke out about 8:30 p.m. on Eastern just off Oak Street and the small wood frame house and an outbuilding were both engulfed when firefighters arrived.
The fire was quickly knocked down.
This fire was just a block away from a fire on the 200 block of Eastern that leveled one home and threatened others on Sept. 22.
Sunday' fire came 48 hours after a much larger fire destroyed two homes and damaged a third on the 200 block of Philippine in Taft Heights.
Both fires are under investigation.
Two weeks earlier, on Sept. 28, fire broke out in an abandoned structure on the 300 block of Naylor, destroying that building, and spreading to an occupied house next door.
A suspect was arrested and charged.
Zachary Hodges pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of unlawfully starting a fire and was released with credit for time served.
