Carlos Garcia charged with murder in death of Frankie De La Cruz

The preliminary hearing for an alleged drunk driver charged with second-degree murder in connection with a head-on collision that killed a Taft man on Highway 119 last summer has been postponed.
Carlos Bonifacio Garcia has pleaded not guilty to all counts in connection with the July 15 crash that fatally injured Francisco De La Cruz, 25.
The reason for the postponement of the hearing was not immediately available. It was originally supposed to be held on Tuesday
It has been rescheduled for Dec. 7.
In addition to the murder charge, Garcia, 27, faces counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, felony DUI and driving on a license suspended.
He has been in jail since he was released from the hospital after being treated for injuries suffered in the crash.
He is being held on $1,050,000 bail.
Bakersfield Police said Garcia was driving drunk on Highway 119 just west of Stine Road when his car crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with De La Cruz' truck.
