Mo Martinez recovering at home

An off-duty Taft Police officer was involved in a minor injury accident in Oildale Tuesday night.

Officer Moises (Mo) Martinez, the school resource officer for the Taft City School District, was taken to San Joaquin Hospital to be checked out and medically cleared, Taft Chief of Police Ed Whiting said.

Martinez was released and is recovering at home.

He is expected to be cleared for duty in a couple of days, Whiting said.
The driver of the other car, a young woman, was transported to a Bakersfield hospital with a complaint of pain.

Whiting said Martinez was in his patrol vehicle traveling on Airport Drive near Park Meadows Avenue when the car driven by the young woman made a left turn in front of him.

Martinez swerved to avoid the other vehicle, Whiting said, but struck it anyway and then ran into a tree.

The crash was reported about 8:51 p.m.

Martinez was returning home from duty in Taft.
