One driver veered into oncoming traffic, causing head-on
The California Highway Patrol has released some details of a crash near Cuyama that killed three people Sunday afternoon
The CHP said a 19-year-old Santa Maria man was westbound on Highway 166 near Bell Drive in the Cuyama area when he veered to the left across double yellow lines and into the eastbound lanes where his Ford Escape SUV collided with an eastbound Ford Explorer.
The impact killed both drivers and a passenger in the Explorer.
The names of the victims had not been released by the Santa Barbara County Corner at press time.
The driver of the Explorer was identified only as a 54-year-old Bakersfield woman and her passenger is a 61-year-old man from Citrus Heights.
It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash, CHP said.
