Routine traffic stop leads to discovery of more than an ounce of the drug, police say
A routines traffic stop led to the arrest of a Taft woman on drug trafficking charges and the seizure of more than an ounce of methamphetamine.
The woman, Brandi Desrochers, 32, was a passenger in a car driven by Markie Schoonover, 36, when a Taft Police officer made a traffic stop at Crystal and Shattuck Wednesday about 11 a.m..
During the stop, it was determined Schoonover had a suspended license and Desrochers had no license either, Chief of Police Ed Whiting said.
Both Schoonover and Desrochers had outstanding warrants, the chief added.
As the car was about to be towed, officers searched it located a black bag containing 1.23 ounces of methamphetamine and scales under the passenger seat, Whiting said.
Desrochers was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale and a warrant.
Schoonover was cited for driving on suspended license and the warrants and released.
