They will perform at the “It's a Grand Night for Music”

Eight Taft Union High School students have been selected as members of the Kern County honor band and orchestra, band director Amanda Posey announced.
They will perform at the “It’s a Grand Night for Music” in the Rabobank Convention Center, 1001 Truxtun Ave. in Bakersfield, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30.

The event features the top 600 high school band, choir and orchestra students in Kern County.
Conductors are usually from colleges and universities around the country.
In past years, Taft usually qualified from one to five musicians so eight out of 10 that auditioned is “a big deal,” Posey said.
Posey’s son, Rick, earned the first chair and only tuba spot in the orchestra. Nathaniel Morris is the second chair for bassoon.

In the band: Taylor Reed is third trumpet and first chair; Dennis Posey, second chair, second alto sax; Kylie Campbell: third trumpet, second chair;

Luis Moncada: third trumpet, fourth chair; Tanner Ashmore: percussion, third chair; and, Raygan Wescott: last chair clarinet.

The student musicians will be performing at the Christmas band concert 7 to 8 p.m. Friday in the high school auditorium.
