One-mile backup reported from minor injury accident

Highway 166 between Maricopa and I-5 was reopened late Wednesday morning after a three-vehicle crash blocked the roadway for 3-1/2 hours.

The crash was reported at 6:38 a.m. about 8 miles east of Maricopa and blocked traffic in both directions.

According to the CHP, it involved a box van, big rig and a Nissan Sentra.

Only minor injuries were reported by the CHP.

Complete details of the crash were not immediately available.

The crash brought traffic to a standstill on the two-lane highway and the shoulders were too muddy from the rains to allow traffic to bypass the crash.
Westbound traffic had already backed up for a mile by the time the CHP arrived on scene, and the Kern County Fire Department reported a long backup of eastbound traffic as well.
