Defendant arrested on New Years Day in Maricopa
A Washington man arrested for auto theft and other charges in Maricopa on New Years Day took a plea deal and was sentenced to a six-month jail term Tuesday.
Brett Lake Lawrence Helgeson, 23, pleaded no contest to trespassing and possession of a stolen vehicle in Kern County Superior Court and was sentenced to 180 days in jail, fined $220 and placed on four years summary probation.
He received credit for 17 days served (nine days time served, eight days of good time).
He was arrested by Kern County Sheriff's deputies after a foot chase and search on the 800 block of Merced.
Deputies were responding to a reported disturbance when they spotted a car that had been reported stolen.
Helgeson ran from the vehicle as deputies approached.
