Structure in Olive Avenue was 50 percent involved when firefighters arrive

Fire damaged a vacant house in South Thursday night.
Multiple calls were made to 9-11 about 9:43 p.m. for a fire in the 300 block of Olive Avenue.

Arriving firefighters found a 1,000 square foot structure about half involved in fire and the fire was threatening the house next door.

Firefighters quickly knocked the fire down and searched the structure but found no one inside.

Damage is estimated at about $15,000 with a save of about $15,000.

Three engines and a ladder truck along with a battalion chief were sent to the fire.
Arson investigators were called in to determine the cause.

About four hours earlier, firefighters put out a fire in a palm tree at the vacant nursing home on West Ash Street.
