Victims were in SUV that overturned. Two pickups also involved

Two people were seriously injured in multiple-vehicle collision at Highway 33 and Wood Street Thursday afternoon.

At least three vehicles, including two pickups and an SUV were involved in the accident.

Both of the injuries were in the SUV, a Chevrolet Tahoe that overturned on the east side of the intersection, rescuers said.

A man and woman were removed from the vehicle and taken by ambulance to Bakersfield hospitals for treatment.

Their injuries were described as moderate to major at the scene.

The man was trapped briefly in the overturned vehicle before being freed by Kern County firefighters but was able to stand after being pulled out.
The drivers of two pickups in the crash were not injured, firefighters said.

The accident was reported just after 2 p.m.
