Taft man turned in front of oncoming traffic, police say

Taft Police arrested a man on drunk driving charges following a three-vehicle accident that seriously injured two people Thursday afternoon.

Jay William Burrow, 59, of Taft, is charged with one felony count of driving under the influence causing injury, Lt. Pete Aranda confirmed.
Burrow was arrested at the of the accident on Highway 33 and Wood Street at just after 2 p.m.

Aranda said Burrow was southbound on Highway 33 and attempted a left turn to go eastbound on Petroleum Club Road.

Burrow turned into oncoming traffic and struck a Ford ranger pickup and a Chevrolet Tahoe, Aranda said.

The driver of the Ranger was uninjured, but the Tahoe overturned, landing on its top with two occupants suffering moderate injuries.

Burrow was transferred to Kern County Jail where he is being held on $10,000 bail.

He is scheduled to appear in Kern County Superior Court in Lamont on Monday, according to the Kern County Sheriff's jail website.
