Burrow gets time served, fine and probation

The Taft man arrested for DUI following a a three-vehicle crash on Jan. 25 has pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor count of drunk driving causing injury and was sentenced to time served.

Jay William Burrow, 59 was sentenced 12 days time already served (six days in jail, six days of good time) and fined $1,883 for the accident at Highway 33 and Wood Street that sent two people to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries. He was also placed on three years probation.

Burrow was first arrested on a felony DUI charge but the Kern County District Attorney filed it as a misdemeanor.

Taft Police said Burrow was driving drunk when he attempted a left turn to go east on Petroleum Club Road from Highway 33 and turned into oncoming traffic.

Police said Burrow's action triggered an accident involving another pickup and an SUV.
