Police believe he had sex with 13-year-old girl

A Taft man is being held in Kern County Jail on child molestation charges after he was arrested by Taft Police last week.

The suspect was identified as Armando Nazarios Rojas, 21.

He is charged with one count of lewd or lascivious conduct with a child.

Police began an investigation on Feb. 24 after being contacted by staff at a Bakersfield hospital.

Capt. Shad Swanson said a 13-year-old girl was being treated in an undisclosed hospital for an unrelated medical condition when staff there became aware of something else going on."

Police were called and an investigation was started.

Rojas was identified as the suspect.

Officers believe Rojas had sex with the girl on Feb. 18.

On Feb. 28, officers received information that Rojas was in the area of Burger King at Highway 119 and Gardner Field Road, and they arrested him there, Swanson said.

Rojas is bing held on $50,000 bond for the molestation count, and an additional $11,000 after being remanded for prior convictions of spousal battery and creating a public disturbance.
