CHP says pickup turned in front of bobtail
A McKittrick man was airlifted to Kern Medical with major injuries after his pickup and a tanker truck collided in McKittrick Friday afternoon.
The crash took place on Highway 33 at Reward Road.
California Highway Patrol spokesman Adam Taylor said Richard Sagaser, 35, was northbound on Highway 33 when he attempted a left turn onto Reward Road.
Sagaser, driving a 2001 Dodge Ram truck, turned into the path of a three-axle bobtail tanker driven by Manuel Arroyo, 33, of Taft.
The truck struck the pickup broadside,
Sagaser was pinned in the wreckage until he was freed by Kern County firefighters.
He was taken to McKittrick School and placed on an air ambulance to be flown to Kern Medical with serious injuries.
Arroyo was not injured.
Both drivers were wearing safety restraints.
Alcohol or drugs were not involved in the crash.
