No injuries reported but one pet dies. Cause under investigation

A Dustin Acres home sustained major damage from a fire Saturday morning.

The fire was reported at 6:38 a.m. in the 28000 block of Dustin Acres Road.

Kern County Fire Battalion Chief John Savarese said the fire was reported by a neighbor who heard what sounded like ammunition going off and noticed smoke.

Arriving firefighters found a bedroom and its contents on fire with flames shooting out a window and spreading to the roof.

Four engines and a ladder truck responded to the fire.

The cause is under investigation.

No damage figure was immediately available.
Some of the equipment was delayed in getting there because they had been dispatched to a traffic accident in the McKittrick area minutes earlier.
No serious injuries were reported in that accident, which involved a vehicle with four people inside that overturned on Highway 33.
