Residents in flood-prone areas urged to prepare now
A major spring storm is bearing down on the Westside with the threat of one to two inches of rain from Tuesday night through Thursday and flooding is a possibility.
Free sand and a limited number of sandbags are available at two locations.
The City of Taft has sand and bags in a city lot on the 500 block of Supply Row across the street from the new transit center.
People are asked to take just 10 bags each.
Free sand is also available from Cooper's True Value.
Cooper's also has pre-filled 50-pound sandbags on sale for $2.79 each.
Empty poly bags that hold 50 pounds each are also on sale for 89 cents each.
There is free sand is available in the lot for self-service customers.
City Manager Craig Jones said people whop know they live in areas subject to flooding should take precautions before the heavy rain starts.
"If you property has been flood prone in the past, now is the time to take precautions, not when when you get flooding," he said.
