Baylee Pritchett receives total of $17,400 and Clayton Hamblin gets $11,975

 Baylee Pritchett and Clayton Hamblin were the big winners at the Taft Union High School Honors Night April 3. To the applause of an auditorium full of their peers, parents and friends, seniors Pritchett and Hamblin walked off stage with $17,400 and $11,975 in college scholarships, respectively.

Ninety students received 292 scholarships from 46 donors totaling more than $180,000.
The Taft College Merit Scholarship was the biggest donor, chipping in $46,800, while the TUHS Parent Support Organization added another $24,350.

Among other scholarships, Pritchett received $10,000 from the Horatio Alger Association, $1,500 from the Class of 1971, and $1,000 each from the Charlie Beard Memorial Scholarship—GP, Confidence Foundation, Midway Sunset, and San Joaquin Refining Co.

Hamblin’s biggest scholarships were $2,000 each from the Confidence Foundation and the Meadows Memorial Scholarship Fund, and $1,000 each from the California Resource Corp., Midway Sunset, and San Joaquin Refining Co.

Other big winners were:

•Brooklyn Yaws with $7,125, including $1,500 from the Class of 1971, and $1,000 each from the Confidence Foundation and Midway Sunset.

•Sierra Pilgrim with $6,800, including $2,000 from the Confidence Foundation and $1,000 from Midway Sunset.

•Abigayle Kindred with $6,225, including $1,000 each from the Confidence Foundation, Midway Sunset, San Joaquin Refining Co., and Soroptimist International of Taft.

•Sawyer Maier with $5,050, including $2,000 from the Liz Miller Memorial (Soroptimist) and $1,000 from the Truman and Beatrice Weigand memorial tennis scholarship.

•Emily Dunham with $5,025, including $1,000 each from the Confidence Foundation; MTC, Taft Correctional Institution; and, the Class of 1971.

•Kendra Dennis with $4,850, including $2,500 fro the Bob Barrett Class of 1958.

•Alondra Cisneros with $4,775, including $1,000 each from the

Confidence Foundation and Midway Sunset.

•Kort Bravo with $4,700, including $1,000 from the

Confidence Foundation.

•Thomas Hunter with $4,550, including $1,000 each from the Kelsey Meadows Memorial Scholarship and MTC, Taft Correctional Institution.

•Abel Urias Lopez with $3,900, including $1,000 from the Confidence Foundation.

•Alison Moon with $3,700, including $1,000 from Midway Sunset.

•Kilie Odle with $3,350, including $1,000 each from the Class of 1971 and the Kelsey Meadows Memorial Scholarship.

•Shaniah Reilly with $3,150, including $2,000 from the Meadows Memorial Scholarship Fund.
