Kevin Altenhofel leaving Taft PD to take job. He was assigned to TC for nearly 5 years
Taft College has a new director of security but he's a familiar face on campus.
Former Taft Police officer Kevin Altenhofel, who worked at TC for nearly five years under a contract
with the city, was introduced
as security director at Wednesday's West Kern Community College District Board meeting.
Altenhofel worked at TC since 2013 but left at the end of January when the Taft Police Department cancelled the contract and Altenhofel returned to regular patrol duties.
He was interviewed and selected from a field of several finalists for the $85,790 per year job and has resigned form the city.
TC, like the Taft Union High School District and Taft City School District, had contracted with Taft Police for school resource officers and campus security officers.
However, as a result of a lawsuit filed in connection with the Taft High shooting in 2013, insurers for the schools and City have been unable to agree on contract language that the City's risk management agency is requiring, and the contracts have not been renewed.
The college also has a new director of admissions and records. Jennifer Strobel was hired for the job with an $82,490 annual salary.
The college is soon going to be hiring a new dean of student success.
Primavera Arvizu is leaving to become vice president for student services at Porterville College.
Arvizu has been a dean at TC for two years.
