StigmaFree IWV is hosting a special presentation May 8. The topic will be “NAMI: In Our Own Voices.” NAMI stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness and the event will feature personal accounts from those living with a mental health condition, covering their struggles and treatment—with an emphasis on hope.

The forum will be the third in a series of expert forum sessions presented by the StigmaFree IWV group, which is a part of the Leadership Ridgecrest Program sponsored by the Ridgecrest Chamber of Commerce and other local organizations.

The group states that while its focus on StigmaFree is a project, “we see this as a movement.” The group consists of Chris Hill from Gary Charlon State Farm, Alex Dias from Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union, Lisa Stephens from Cerro Coso College, Steve Martinez of Ridgecrest Charter School and Rajanikant Jonnalagadda of Searles Valley Minerals.

The forum will be held at Desert Valleys FCU Community Resource Center at 100 E. Ward Ave. beginning at 6 p.m., on Tuesday. Attendance is free. The first two programs have proved popular, so attendees may want to arrive early for good seats.
