Bakersfield man in pickup failed to yield to motorcycle on Highway 166, CHP says
The names of the two men involved in a fatal motorcycle crash Friday on Highway 166 have been released.
The Kern County Coroner said John J. Vericella, 32, of Oakland, died when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck that pulled across Highway 166 and into his path.
The crash took place about 2 p.m. five miles east of Basic School Road.
The CHP said Vericella was westbound on the highway riding a 2016 Honda motorcycle when a Chevrolet Silverado driven by Augustin P. Sanchez, 58, of Bakersfield, failed to yield the right-of-way to Vericella and drove right into his path.
Vericella was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.
Sanchez was not injured.
