Cowan pleads no contest to two counts of possession for sale. He will be sentenced May 23
A Taft man arrested for drug trafficking in April by Taft Police will be sentenced May 23 after he accepted a plea agreement with prosecutors for that arrest and a prior case filed in 2017.
Kern County Superior Court records show Stuart Cowan Jr. pleaded no contest in separate cases to possession of a controlled substance for sale in connection with the April arrest near the Taft Petroleum Club and in a case filed in November.
Cowan, 35, is being held on $25,000 bail in the Sheriff's Lerdo facility while awaiting sentencing.
Taft Police said Cowan was arrested near the Petroleum Club in a suspicious vehicle driving in the area with its headlights off at night.
Cowan, police said, was on probation and subject to search for narcotics.
When he was searched, officers said they found approximately 24.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and approximately 1.3 grams of suspected heroin.
