Stuart Cowan sentenced to 1 year, 4 for months in jail

 A Taft man has been sentenced to a year and four months in jail for two drug trafficking convictions.

Stuart Cowan, 35, had pleaded no contest to two counts of possession of a controlled substance for sale stemming from arrests in November of 2017 and April of this year.

In the second arrest, on April 15, Cowan arrested after Taft Police checked a suspicious vehicle parked near the Taft Petroleum Club.

Cowan was a passenger.
After officers determined he was on probation, he was searched and police said they found approximately 24.6 grams of suspected methamphetamine and approximately 1.3 grams of suspected heroin.

In addition to the jail, Cowan was fined $985.
