Blaze was reported in late morning, spread stopped at 100 acres by midafternoon

CalFire crews from San Luis Obispo County got the upper hand on a brush fire in the Bitterwater Valley area last week.

The fire was reported late Thursday morning in the 6200 block of Bitterwater Road near the intersection with Bitterwater Valley Road, which is in a remote area of northeastern SLO County just west of the Kern County line and south of the Keck's Corner area along Highway 46.

When firefighting aircraft got over the fire, it had already burned about 20 acres.

The fire grew to about 100 acres in size before firefighters halted the spread.

By 2 p.m. the fire was reported to be 70 percent contained.

The cause of the fire was not immediately released.
