Sherrell makes first court appearance. Arraignment continued until June 27
Murder suspect Bobby Gene Sherrell made his first court appearance on Tuesday.
His arraignment was continued until June 27 and he did not enter a plea.
Sherrell, 37, is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of David Ray Steelman in South Taft.
Bail was set at $1 million for the murder charge.
Sherrell is accused of shooting Steelman early June 13 in the 600 block of Crystal Street.
Kern County Sheriff's deputies responding to a man down call found Steelman laying on the south side of Crystal just east of Olive Avenue.
He was arrested Friday at an undisclosed location in Bakersfield.
Kern County Sheriff's detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest and he was taken into custody by the Sheriff's Special Operations Group, the KCSO reported Tuesday.
In addition to the murder count, Sherrell is being held on two felony warrants, one for drug trafficking and a second one for burglary and forgery.
