College program receives California Community Colleges' Strong Workforce Stars recognition for improving student employment and wage outcomes.
Taft College’s Dental Hygiene Program earned gold star status in the California Community Colleges’ Strong Workforce Stars recognition for improving student employment and wage outcomes.
Strong Workforce Stars is an annual recognition for career education programs, formerly known as vocational technical education programs, within the California Community College system whose graduates show significant gains in several factors. Over 70 California community colleges received Gold Star award recognition for their positive impact on students’ employment and earnings outcomes in programs. These award winners demonstrated significantly higher outcomes than other career education programs in the state. The three key employment and earnings indicators used for measurement were:
•At least 70% of students attained regional living wage
•Students experienced an increase in income of 50% or more, and/or
•At least 90% of students secured employment in their field of study
The Taft College Dental Hygiene Program had a 94% increase in living wage, a 264% increase in income and 100% employment in the field for the 22015-16 year of data collection.
“Our Dental Hygiene Program provides an opportunity for our community to have access to a High-skill, high-wage, high-demand health care career,” says Dr. Deb Daniels, superintend
