Car crashes on Cadet Road
Two young men escaped serious injury when their car overturned and landed in a dirt field off Cadet Road Thursday afternoon.
The driver and a passenger walked away from the crash and were being aided by farmworkers in a nearby orchard when emergency personnel arrived on scene.
The crash scene was about a quarter mile east of the California Aqueduct.
Law enforcement officers on the scene described their injuries as minor.
The car landed on its wheels about 100 feet off the south side of the roadway in very soft dirt.
Only one of the victims was taken by ambulance to a Bakersfield hospital and he was able to walk to the ambulance.
The second man declined transport to a hospital.
About an hour earlier, Taft Police, the Kern County Fire Department and West Kern Water District responded to a traffic accident at Seventh and Main where a pickup truck sheared off a fire hydrant, causing water to shoot into the air.
There were no injuries in that accident.
