Two incumbents, four challengers already trying to get name on ballot for November election. Deadline to file is Aug. 10

Six candidates have taken out nomination papers to run for three seats to the Taft City Council by Thursday afternoon.

City Clerk Yvette Mayfield said incumbents Randy Miller and Josh Bryant and four challengers - retired Taft Chief of Police Ed Whiting, former Councilman Ron Waldrop, Andrew Wagner, who placed third in the 2016 campaign for two seats, and Jeff Eveland, a Kern County Sheriff's sergeant have all pulled papers.

None of the candidates' nominations have been turned in, Mayfield said.
The filing period to run for the three seats being contested in the November election is 5 p.m. on Aug. 10 unless one or more of the incumbents fails to turn in papers.
