Firefighter was mapping fire in Pleito Hills when he fell off cliff

A Kern County firefighter was seriously injured when he fell off a cliff while mapping a fire in the Pleito Hills area.

The firefighter, who was not identified, fell 30 feet and suffered a broken arm and other injuries about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, according to Kern County Firefighters Local 1301.

He was hoisted out by KCFD Helicopter 407 the transferred to Medivac 1 to be flown to a Bakersfield hospital for treatment.
He was admitted and remained in the hospital Tuesday afternoon.

The fire he was mapping broke out Monday night in the hilly terrain south of Highway 166 east of Maricopa.
