He suffered broken arm in 30-foot fall early Tuesday
The Kern County firefighter injured in a fall on a fire east of Maricopa early suffered multiple injuries and was scheduled to undergo surgery Friday, the union representing Kern County firefighters said.
Kern County Firefighters Local 1301 said in a Twitter post Thursday that the firefighter, whose name isn't being released, suffered a broken forearm that requires surgery.
He also fractured his back and has several herniated discs, the union said.
The firefighter was mapping a fire that broke out Monday night in the Pleito Hills south of Highway 166 and east of Maricopa.
He fell down a 30-foot cliff at about 3:30 a.m, Tuesday according to the KCFD.
He was hoisted out by KCFD a helicopter, then transferred to a medivac helicopter that flew him to a Bakersfield hospital for treatment.
