Forensic anthropologist to examine leg. Coroner plans more studies
The Kern County Coroner has completed a postmortem examination of the human leg that washed ashore at Buena Vista Lake on July 28 but has not determined how the person the leg belonged to died.
Further examination is going to be needed.
The Coroner, in a brief news release Friday afternoon, said further studies and an examination by a forensic anthropologist will be conducted into the cause and manner of death.
The leg was discovered by a young girl on the waters edge at the lake about 9 a.m. on July 28.
Sheriff's officials and the Coroner started an investigation.
The lake near where the body was searched in the days after discovery, but no other remains were found and the Sheriff says the lake is very murky with low visibility, making further searching difficult at best.
