Candidates for Supervisor, City Council, state and federal races will be invited

The Taft Chamber of Commerce is planning a Candidates Forum for five of the contested races on the November ballot, but it is going to let the Taft Union High School Teachers decide whether to hold one for the candidates running for three seats on the TUHSD Board of Trustees.
The Chamber's forum is going to be held on Oct. 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at OT Cookhouse.

Candidates for the City Council, Kern County Supervisor Second District, State Assembly 34th District, State Senator 23rd District and United States Congress 23rd District will all be invited.

Wes Morris, president of the Taft Union High School Teachers Association, said the teachers will definitely hold a discussion between the teachers and the four candidates but isn't sure if it will hold a forum for the public was well.

The Council race is the most crowded with nine candidates on the ballot, including incumbents Renee Hill and Josh Bryant and challengers Ed Whiting, Andrew Wagner, Ron Waldrop, Sandra Downey, Jeff Eveland, Michael Long and Don Braun.

In the newly redrawn Second District, which now includes Taft, incumbent Zack Scrivner is seeking reelection against challengers Dalmas Brunn, Whitney Weddell and Michael Biglay.
