Suspect used rock to break glass in front door, police say

Taft Police arrested a man on a burglary charge after they said he was caught with 22 stolen white T-shirts earlier this week.

The suspect, identified as Matthew Ray, 26, is accused of using a rock to break the window on the front door of the Goodwill Store and stole the shirts, which were still on hangers.

Officers were dispatched to a burglar alarm at the business in the Pilot Plaza. at 1:14 a.m. Monday.

When officers arrived, they met the manager who was in her vehicle near the suspect, police said, in the parking area at the east end of the shopping center.

Ray was booked into the Taft Jail and later transferred to Kern County Jail where he is being held on $15,000 bail for felony counts of vandalism and burglary.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Sept. 10.
