Former head of Taft Chamber of Commerce who passed last summer remembered for her dedication to Taft

The Taft City Council paid tribute to the late Charmayne Brooks with a certificate of commendation that was presented to her family Tuesday night.

Brooks, active in many civic organizations, but best known for her enthusiastic promotion of the community in her role as executive director of the Taft Chamber of Commerce, passed on June 27.

Honored during her lifetime as Woman of the Year by the Taft Rotary Club and Soroptimist of the Year, Brooks was celebrated by the Council as a "tireless advocate for Taft businesses and citizens (who) donated generously of her time to the Westside."

Brooks' daughter, Micheele Tillery, accepted the honor on her family's behalf.

"My mom's greatest joy, other than her family, was advocating for the City of Taft, its clubs and its citizens," Tillery said. "When it came to Taft, mom was unstopppable."

"Charymane lit up so many lives here in Taft," Mayor Dave Noerr said.
