One two-story structure destroyed, another heavily damaged in fire early Saturday

Nine people are homeless after a fire early Saturday morning in Taft Heights.
The flames destroyed one two story structure, heavily damaged a two-story occupied home and several other nearby buildings.
The fire was reported in the 300 block of Philippine Street around 5:48 a.m.
Arriving Kern County Firefighters found the two-story building in the rear of 320 Philippine engulfed in flames with fire spreading to the main residence and across the alley to an outbuilding.
The burning structure collapsed as firefighters were trying to contain the fire.
One minor injury was reported. One of the people fleeing the fire suffered an ankle injury, the KCFD said.
The fire destroyed power lines and a large phone of cable lines as well.
