Taft’s unemployment rate is just a little lower than Kern County’s, but unemployment in nearby unincorporated areas is much higher.
Taft’s unemployment rate for January was 16.8 percent, according to the California Employment Development Department, just slightly under the Kern County figure of 17.1 percent.
The EDD released the information last week.
Some of the outlying areas had lower rates that the city, but Ford City’s was much higher – 26.7 percent, according to the EDD.
South Taft’s rate was 15.0 percent, according to EDD figures, and Taft Heights’ was 11.4 percent.
Maricopa had an unemployment rate of 17.9 percent.
