Taft College has removed a black mark on its record.
The college has been removed from warning and restored to full accreditation status by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC).
In 2009, the ACCJC issued  the college a warning concerning the college’s ability to meet accreditation standards after a ten-member team visited the campus. The College also received positive commendations in several areas.
The warning, however, meant the commission had concerns regarding the college’s strategic planning and program review procedures.  In addition, the commission also requested that Taft College develop ethics policies and build on efforts to boost student proficiency levels.
Barbara Beno, president of the commission, said the warning, though “mild,” is a sign for colleges to “stop and reverse” certain practices. Taft College has strongly responded to the recommendations resulting in restoration to full accreditation, said Sheri Horn-Bunk executive director of the Taft College Foundation.
The ACCJC accredits associate degree granting institutions in the western region of the United States.  The ACCJC is one of seven regional accrediting commissions authorized to operate by the U.S. Department of Education through the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008.
