Taft’s third annual Relay for Life event will begin at 8:30 tomorrow morning with opening ceremonies hosted by Channel 17 news personalities Robin Mangarin and Jim Scott.
A half hour later the survivors lap will officially start the 24-hour walk-a-thon around the track at Patterson/O’Brien Field on the Taft High School campus.
The survivor lap will be followed by a caregiver lap and then the parade of more than 700 members of 58 teams that have been raising money for the American Cancer Society’s signature fund-raising event.
The encampment, which is open to the public, will feature music, games, and food and vendor booths sponsored by each of the teams.
Entertainment will include a Dixieland band, the Taft High Jazz Band, the Lopez Family Band and local rock bands Alast and X-Static.
Taft High will present an improvisation show and there will be a hypnotist. Singers showcasing their talent include Lydia Ranger, Dennis Hogan, and Elle.
There will be a Taft’s Got Talent contest hosted by Heather Witcher of KLLY radio and Miles Muzio of Channel 29 and a magic show.
Nick’s Mobile DJ will conduct an Air Guitar contest, and there will be a Dude Looks Like a Lady pageant.
Saturday’s night’s signature event will be the emotional Luminaria Ceremony, which gets underway at 8 o’clock.
Movies under the stars and a near-full moon begin at 11. Movies include Darby O’Gill and the Little People, Letters to God, Tangled, Alice in Wonderland and Despicable Me.
