At least six people, including two children, were injured in a three-vehicle hit-and-run crash north of Taft late Saturday.
California Highway Patrol officers said a Subaru Forester sports utility vehicle rear ended a  Saturn sedan stopped at Highway 119 and Midway Road, knocking it into a compressed gas tanker.
The officers said the sedan was stopped at the intersection just after 11 p.m. while the tanker made a left turn and the SUV, travelling north, failed to stop and struck it, knocking the sedan and its  four passengers into the tanker.

Firefighters said there were four people in the Saturn, including two adults and two children. A child about 2 years old was the most seriously injured and was flown from the scene by a helicopter.
The other three passengers suffered minor to moderate injuries, CHP officers said.
Two people in the Subaru were injured and remained at the scene. There injures were also described as minor to moderate.
The driver of the Subaru fled on foot.
Taft Police and Kern County Sheriff's deputies searched the area with the help of the Sheriff's helicopter but were unable to locate him.
Officers were still searching for the suspect in a large area north of Taft after daybreak.
The suspect driver is described as a hispanic male in his early 30s possibly suffering from upper body injuries.
The names and hometowns of the victims were not immediately released.
The crash closed Highway 119 for more than two hours.  It was finally reopened about 1:30 a.m.
