Two men were arrested and charged with possession of stolen property on Sunday after Kern County Sheriff's deputies found what appears to be a “chop shop” for stolen bicycles in South Taft.
Deputies were first sent to the 300 block of eastern where they ran into what Sgt. Martin Downs described as a “large angry crowd” that was claiming numerous bikes had been stolen and were at a home on the 200 block of Eastern.
Deputies went to that residence, Downs said, and found an undetermined of bikes and bike parts in what he described as a “chop shop.”
Bikes were being parted out and the paint was being stripped off frames, Downs said. THe deputies found power sanders at the scene that were apparently being used to remove the paint, Down said
Some of the bikes fond were very expensive BX bikes, Down said.
Two men at the house on the 200 block of Eastern were detained and later arrested and charged with possession of stolen property.
They were identified as James Michael Jones, 22, and Dominick Lee Mattenson, 20.
