Highway 46 to the coast is closed after a fatal accident involving a car and a produce truck.
The crash could keep Highway 46 closed until mid afternoon Friday.
The crash occurred at 6 a.m. Friday morning on Highway 46 nine miles east of the Kern San Luis Obispo county line.
Caltrans has set up hard closures at the intersection of Highway 46 and Highway 33 east of the accident and traffic is being routed north to Highway 41.
Eastbound traffic on Highway 46 is also closed to the west of the crash.
According to the California Highway Patrol website, there is one confirmed fatality.
It is not known whether the victim was in the car or in the truck.
The cab of the truck was on fire, according to the CHP website.
The truck was carrying strawberries and lettuce and the Kern County Health Department was also being called to the scene.
Shortly before 9 a.m., the CHP website said there would be a long-term closure of Highway 46.
The estimated time to reopen the road was 2 p.m.
