The woman injured in a house fire early Tuesday morning is still in intensive care, but her children are recovering and staying with family, the American Red Cross reported.
The woman, identified by a family friend as Elsie Lopez, suffered severe smoke inhalation and possible inhalation burns when fire broke out in a duplex at 409 South Sixth St. just before 1 a.m.
Her children, daughters age 5 and 6 and a son age 9, suffered less severe smoke inhalation and were released after being treated.
The fire destroyed the unit the family was staying in.
The Red Cross's Kern Chapter Disaster Action Team is assisting the family, according to Red Cross spokesman Jennifer Perfect.
They have held the family with food, clothing, comfort kits and referrals.
