A motorcyclist was killed in a crash that occurred in a remote area of San Luis Obispo County Friday afternoon.
The male victim was off-roading with friends when he crashed into a ravine.
The friends are unfamiliar with the area.
They estimated the crash scene was 20 to 30 miles to the west or southwest of 25 Hill, possibly in the area of the San Andreas Fault.
“They said it was a crevice that ran north and south as far as they could see,” said KCFD Capt. Guy Finocchiaro.
Two friends drove to the Taft area to get help while others remained at the scene.
There was no cell phone service in the area and they drove to the top of the Temblor Range to call for help, then drove down to meet crews at the top of 25 Hill.
Local rescuers were notified of the incident about 5:30 p.m. and the crash probably happened an hour or 90 minutes earlier.
Kern County firefighters and Kern County Sheriff’s deputies met the friends on the hill.
They were told by he riders that the man was badly injured and bleeding heavily. Other people were standing by with the victim.
The Sheriff’s search-and-rescue helicopter, Air-5, landed on 25 Hill and picked up one of the friends of the victim who led them back to the accident scene in the darkness.
The victim wad dead when they arrived, according to reports from the scene.
That was about 6:50 p.m.
The name and age of the victim was not available. The riders were from the Fresno-Clovis area, they said.
