Three people were injured when an ambulance transporting a burn victim from the Taft area collided with a pickup at the intersection of Highway 119 and Enos Lane Friday morning.

Reports from the scene indicate the driver of the pickup suffered moderate injuries.

The driver of the Hall Ambulance unit and the paramedic in the rear with the patient were both walking around after the crash but were taken to hospitals.

It was not immediately clear if the burn patient suffered further injuries in the crash.
California Highway Patrol Sgt. Terry Hester said family members were following the ambulance and they took the burn victim from the rear of the wrecked ambulance and took him to San Joaquin Hospital themselves.

The extent of the burn injuries isn’t known.

Hester said the ambulance was eastbound on Highway 119 with its red lights and sirens deployed as it neared the intersection.

The family of the burn victim was following close behind, Hester said

The light turned yellow, Hester said, and the ambulance slowed, and then entered the intersection at an “unknown rate of speed,” Hester said.
The pickup was northbound on Enos Lane and stopped at Highway 119. The driver turned left with a green left turn arrow, and the ambulance struck it broadside.
