A swine flu vaccine clinic  for people deemed to be in priority groups will be held in Taft on Thursday at the Southwest Regional Center (county building) 315 North Lincoln Street, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The Kern County Department of Public Health announced the clinic in Taft and others around the county this week after it received another shipment of the vaccine for the H1N1 virus.

Health officials have been eagerly awaiting the shipment, which includes both injectable and nasal mist vaccines.

“Because it just did arrive, we will finalize our emergency plans for distribution as soon as possible,” said Matt Constantine, director of the department.

The shipment of vaccine allows the department to expand the groups eligible to receive the vaccine.

People eligible for the vaccine include:

•Children 2 years to 24 years;

•Pregnant Women;

•Caregivers of children 6 months of age and younger;

•Persons with underlying health conditions 24 years to 64 years

•Healthcare workers.

The public is invited to visit Public Health’s web site http://www.co.kern.ca.us/health/ or call 1-877-81VIRUS for updates on clinics and H1N1 distribution efforts.
